Can I Wipe Over My Footgear (Khuffs) If There Is a Tear In Them?

Question: asalam u alaykum

On my khuffs the zippper doesnt work but the button works.  Will i be allowed to make masah and what if the button opens will i have to wash my feet again or can i just close the button and make masah?  Even with the button closed there will be a hole gap due to the zipper not working

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are well, insha’Allah.

It would be permitted to wipe over one’s footgear (khuffs) as long as the extent of the area uncovered, whilst walking normally, is less than the area of one’s three small toes.

[Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; `Ala al-Din `Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-`Ala’iyya]

The reason for this is that it would practically be considered like a tear in one’s footgear (khuffs); hence the related rulings would apply.
