Question: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuh,

How to perform wudu when one is suffering from severe eczema and have to use medicine on the skin?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

As long as the medicine does not form a perceptible barrier (which is rare), you can simply wash your limbs as normal. There is no need to remove the medicine before performing the ablution (wudu).

However, in the case that there is harm feared (and this is confirmed by a Muslim doctor), you can merely wipe the area. If this too is harmful, you can leave the wiping altogether in that particular area.

May Allah grant you a complete recovery, and well-being in this life and the next.

And Allah alone gives success.
