A Good Recommendation

How To Avoid a Premature Child?

Answered by Shaykh Ilyas Patel and Faraz Rabbani

Question: I am within the 3 months of my pregnancy and my last pregnancy resulted as prematurity. is there anything that you can recommend for me to pray to make sure that this baby is not premature?

Answer: In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you an easy pregnancy and a healthy child.

We should remember that everything is in the Hand of Allah, and whatever He manifests is ultimately best for us if we respond to it in the best of ways. Remember the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that,

Strange indeed are the affairs of a believer, for anything that happens to them is good—and that isn’t true for anyone but a believer. If good happens to them, they are thankful and that is good for them. If difficulty befalls them, they are patient and that is good for them. [Related by Muslim and others, on the authority of Suhaib (Allah be pleased with him)]

A powerful means of seeking Allah’s favor, mercy, and assistance is heart-felt supplication after each obligatory prayer.

With that, some scholars recommend the following—based on experience, and as an application of what the Qur’an and Sunnaestablish regarding seeking healing through the Qur’an:

1. Anyone who, whilst placing his hand on the stomach of his pregnant wife, repeats Ya Mubdi ( O Originator) 99 times at the time of suhur (before Fajr), neither will she have a miscarriage nor will she give birth prematurely, insha Allah. [M.Musa OlgarUpbringing of Children pg 28]

or

2. If an expectant woman writes Sura Al-Haqqa (in the 29 Juz) and wears it as an amulet (ta`weez), it will protect the unborn child from physical, mental and spiritual calamities, insha Allah. [A`maal Qurani, M. Ashraf Ali Tahanawi pg 64]
