Palmistry Has Made Me Worried About My Future. What Should I Do?

Answered by Shaykh Jamir Meah

Question: Assalamu alaykum

I looked up palmistry on youtube and saw some bad signs on my hands. The same goes with the hand of my friend. I don’t have a firm belief on fortune telling but I’m worried to have made some connection with a jinn. What should I do?

Answer: Wa’alaykum assalam. Thank you for your question.

Palmistry is a form of fortune telling and is prohibited in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said, ‘Whoever goes to a fortuneteller or soothsayer and believes in him, then he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.’ [Musnad Ahmad]

Palmistry and Fortune Telling

One should desist from any type of this practice, and do not believe in anything that is ‘foretold’ through such mediums. Despite their falsity, by delving into such things, one can never be sure of what mischievous and evil forces one leaves themselves open to, and a person can become susceptible to whisperings and weakening of faith.

Make repentance from any involvement in it and turn to Allah for and from everything.

Supplication

One should seek protection from Allah Most High from all harm, including the devil and jinn, by reciting the following supplication, ideally after each prayer if you feel the need:

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

I seek refuge in Allah most perfect words from every devil, harmful thing, and accusing eye. [Bukhari]
