Question: Assalamu alaykum

Is it allowed to be completely naked during intercourse? If it is allowed then do you need to have a blanket?

Answer:  Walaikum assalam,

I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.

Yes, it is permitted for husband and wife to be completely naked during intercourse, as there is nothing prohibiting this.

Rather, the permission of uncovering in front of one’s spouse is understood from the teachings of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him & his folk). He said, for example, “Cover your nakedness, except from your spouse…” [Tirmidhi, Ibn Maja; sound (hasan)]

However, despite the permissibility (without dislike) it is considered from superior manners, to generally cover one’s nakedness—even during intercourse. In the same hadith above, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reminded the Companions that, “Allah is more deserving of one’s shyness than people are.”
