02 – Abdullah ibn Mas’oud – The Shepherd Who First Recited The Qur’an

In this episode, Shaykh Sadullah Khan covers the story of the great companion Abdullah ibn Mas’oud (may God be pleased with him). Abdullah ibn Mas’oud (may God be pleased with him) was a young shepherd in Quraysh when he met Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Abdullah ibn Mas’oud (may God be pleased with him) was impressed and captured by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and closely followed him for the rest of his life. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) made a supplication for Abdullah to be learned and have deep knowledge, and it was so. Abdullah ibn Mas’oud (may God be pleased with him) was the first to recite Qur’an publicly to Quraysh in Mecca, in front of the Ka’ba. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) attested to the recitation of Abdullah ibn Mas’oud’s (may God be pleased with him) recitation of the Qur’an and said: “Whoever wishes to hear the Qur’an accurately, as it was revealed, let him listen to the recitation of ibn Umm Abd.”
