04 – Bilal ibn Rabah – First Caller to Prayer

In this  episode of “Simply The Best”, Shaykh Sadullah Khan covers the story of Bilal ibn Rabah. He was known as the first caller to prayer in Islam. He was born in Makka lived as a slave to Umayyah ibn Khalaf. After accepting Islam, Bilal professed the oneness of Allah despite being tortured. Abu Bakr paid to have Bilal released from bondage. Bilal was asked by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) to give the call to prayer, and hence became the first caller to prayer. Bilal exhibited tremendous love of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him), so much so that he found it difficult to make the call to prayer after the passing away of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him). Bilal passed away 20 A.H. in Damascus.
