11 – Julaybib – The Outcast Who Became Beloved

In the 6th Century CE, pre-Islam Arabs gave great importance to how someone looked, their lineage, or their connections. This was how they were looked up to or not in Arabian society. Julaybib didn’t excel in any of these therefore was looked down upon. Julaybib was also looked down upon due to the fact his lineage was unkown. Therefore none knew who his mother or father were. It was said Julaybib was looked down upon both physically and socially. Jualaybib was an outcast. Therefore he avoided many of the social gathering. After the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him and give him peace) entered Madinah, Julaybib sought out the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) and accepted Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) out of his care and concern for everyone, paid particular attention to Julaybib. Julaybib came up missing in one of the battles of the Muslims. They found him surrounded by the seven disbelievers he had killed in the battle. Julaybib died being beloved to Allah ta’ala.
