26 – The Best of Charity

In this episode Shaykh Yahya Rhodus explains the concept of the best of charity given the different circumstances and different times. Shaykh Yahya narrates the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad saying that the best of charity is that of one who gives while they have wealth. He explains that this is one circumstance where charity is best given, however there are other times where it may be in the opposite situation. Then he narrates more teachings of Prophet Muhammad about other types of charity like knowledge and interceding on one’s behalf.

The Content of Character is a remarkable collection of sayings of the Prophet Muhammad. Chosen by the scholar, Shaykh Al-Amin Ali Mazrui and translated by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, this book was published to great critical acclaim.

Shaykh Al-Amin intended to show that progress among Muslims required not the abandonment of Islam but the recovery of the original spirit of Islamic enlightenment.
